US Open Tennis 2020 Live

US Open Tennis 2020 Live: In partnership with the state of New York, the USGA has announced that due to ongoing health and safety concerns from the COVID-19 pandemic, the 120th U.S. Open Championship, scheduled August 31 to September 13 at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., will be conducted without spectators on-site.

US Open tennis is just around the corner and the excitement is building among fans. They will have to watch from home this year, though, with coronavirus restrictions preventing spectators from attending.

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic said: “I have seen a little glimpse from the central area of Flushing Meadows tennis center, and it’s a ghost town.

“Not many people around. We’re not used to seeing it that way.

“The US Open is arguably the tournament that has the best energy. The people just get involved so much. It’s going to be missed. It’s missed already.

“We can’t sit here and pretend like we are OK even without a crowd. We have to accept it, but I personally definitely hope that this is a temporary thing.”

Rafael Nadal is the reigning men’s champion but the Spaniard has decided not to take part because the coronavirus pandemic is “not under control”.

“The health situation is very complicated around the world with cases increasing and flare-ups,” said Nadal.

He added: “This is a decision I never wanted to take but I have decided to follow my heart this time and for the time being I rather not travel.”

Defending women’s champions Bianca Andreescu has also decided against participating in the US Open after winning her maiden Grand Slam last year.

“I have made the difficult decision not to return to New York this year,” she said.

“I have taken this step in order to focus on my match fitness and ensure that I return ready to play at my highest level.”
